Good experiment. I'm sure Magnepan has done it, but I've never seen any results.
My understanding is that the break-in has more to do with thermal cycling than anything else. Also that the quasi-ribbon panels take only about half the time of the wire panels to break in -- this according to Magnepan's Wendell Diller.
Otherwise, all I can say is that, from experience, it does happen, and that there are effects on the midrange too -- my MMG's sounded constipated at high levels out of the box, but that quickly passed as I played them.
