From an audio perspective, I'd vote for speakers on the North (?) side of the living room, bordering the hall and dining area. This may not be practical for you because of the TV, but it would keep the speakers far out from the dining room wall and it would be fairly easy to mount the MMG-W's.
Speakers against the wall opposite the stairs would be my next choice. A pair of floor-standing MMG's might be the key here, if you can make the room. Or a used pair of 10.1's.
Speakers against the stairs could work -- the effect of the stairs and half height wall would depend on the height of the wall so it's hard to say what would happen.
If you put the speakers against the sliding door, I'm not sure what you'd do with the TV and you'd need a heavy curtain to tame the glass.
If you use the bedroom, but you'd have a choice between sitting too close (speakers against a wall) or dealing with what looks like a fairly large window. The symmetry of the room is a plus but it's size is a distinct minus.
I think your best course is to experiment a bit, the 1.7's are easy to move, so I'd try different configurations and wait until I found one that worked well before I installed the TV and the surrounds. I'd also consider lifestyle factors, e.g., do you want a dedicated listening/TV room or do you want to combine the AV functionality with your living room.
