Staples are (relatively) easy, just tedious. There's usually an outer layer and an inner layer, you'll see this immediately. The sock material may be compromised, my 1986 SMGs were done in a burlap-like material that wasn't salvageable. So possibly add new socks to the total outlay.Once you get the forty thousand staples out (a thin flathead screwdriver works fine) and fix the panel wires, you are going to have to staple the socks (new or old) back on.
So you'll need a stapler. I used an Ace/Stanley 2034767, not overkill for the job but not too pricey either.
Once you have the speakers open, remember this is a good time to check EVERYTHING out thoroughly. Green means adhesive breakdown, reddish signifies corrosion and eventual wire failure.
So i'd advise that you do everything necessary at one shot. Opening them up is a PITA, so do it once and you'll be a happy camper.
