Neither, my friend. It is "L-shaped". :-))
The long part of the "L" sits against the MDF frame (but tilted "up" a bit); the short edge presses against the perforated metal sheet. The bolts go right through the MDF so, as you tighten the nuts, the long part of the "L" wants to get flat to the MDF ... so the short edge rides down against the metal sheet, clamping the driver more to the rebate in the MDF frame.
This also has the effect of stiffening the MDF frame, as well.
I had the angle specially made up in my tame metal-shop - it was about 1" across the long part and 1/4" across the short part.
