I have finally gotten my ESL-57's dialed in to where they're sounding right (i.e., excellent) to me. The biggest trick was to just leave the dang things plugged in. It took at least three full days until the efficiency (for lack of a better word) plateaued. I know y'all 1) know this and 2) told me to do so... but it still really surprised me (skeptic that I am) that they'd be metastable for so long. Plenty of volume now with the HF-81, and a smooth, balanced sound. LF is a little soft, but that's partly the HF-81, and partly placement. No qualms about extension, though.I finally, empirically, got the tilt angle right to aim the tweeters (in a vertical sense) at my listening chair, and they sound sweet and silky. Vocals and acoustic (plucked) instruments are... well, you know!
all the best,
mrh
