If Max could not convince you to give it a try from what he told you and from his experience what good would it be for you to hear me rehash what you have already been told? The only way you will know is to give it a try. Cost is very low so what have you got to lose? At most you are looking at a $20-30 dollar touch plus some postage if there is nobody local to do it for you. If it's not worth that then you are not interested. There are probably pages of threads that discribe the sound difference.
Ross must have been sober when you met him, your good fortune. No I did not treat the cables on the last pair of 57's I rebuilt but I have treated the diaphragm material as well as all the cables and stator wire of the panels that I built (30 gage double build magnet wire 24 wires per inch Acoustat style). I have treated entire components. All the cables I build are cryo treated. I can hear the effect of reflowing one solder joint in a cable after it has been treated. I did not believe that there would be any difference prior to my first experience but I was willing to try it and see (hear) for myself. Heck I even treat my solder now.
