Re: New music system room.

Strictly speaking, you can accommodate any size magnepan across the long side of a room that size provided you are prepared to use equalization to address lumpy bass, which will result from the dips and peaks induced in a typical small rooms such as yours. That said, this is not really as big a problem at it first appears since the subs you are considering as a option to extend the bass of the MMGs will suffer frm the exact same issue. They will require some equalization in your room if your goal is extended, tonally even bass.

Soundstage depth is another issue, but this affects the MMG and 1.6 alike, close proximity to the rear wall will curtail soundstage depth. And the only thing you can do to address this is to pull the loudspeakers further into the room. If you do not have enough space to do that, you are stuffed. The next best thing will be to learn to live with the curtailed soundstage depth!

Will the 1.6 require some extra help in the bass, looking at the measurments the answer to that is an emphatic Yes, so if your goals is to extend the bass of your present system, getting a pair of subwoofers and employing some form of equalization is the most cost effective route to take, the "dbx PA" loudspeaker crossover/equalizer will seem to be the way to go since it houses a crossover and a much more sophisticated equalizer in one box, however it costs significantly more than the Behringer DCX2496, so it is case you pays your money and make your choice.
