I own a pair of the Linear Acoustics Labs modules you speak of. I have tried them in my own as well as a couple of customers' original Quads. Summary: those passive devices substantially reduce the overall sensitivity of the speaker (bad), overemphasize the midrange frequencies (bad), but tighten up the midbass (good). IMO, that's too much of a sacrifice to get a little better bowed bass...
