You can still use your amp for frontsConsider a used Bel Canto Pre6 -- very good Pre for 2ch & mch. One listed on Audiogon now for 1799 (good price if a Gen II). (I do not know the seller, I just use one myself)
I use a Arcam DV27A that has built in Dolby Digital & Pro Logic processing -- all that is needed for 5.1 surround
I initially used 3.6s with 1.6 rears, now I have 20.1 fronts
Incredible sounstaging with no need for center channel as long a s you sit within the tweeters.
You can widen the 3.6s a liitle when you switch mch if needed with minimal downside.
You could add a smaller 2 channel amp for rears.
