My 3.5's were packed back to back and cosmeticly suffered damage, plus they were not taped well when shipped.

Pack front to front. You do not want to expose the wood trim or the more fragile front grills to shipping damage. The magnets are actually farther apart in this configuration anyhow, even if did matter, which it doesn't.

Tape the "ever-living crap" out the box. TAPE TAPE TAPE!!!!! At minimum you should use a full roll of packing tape. Shippers are like rock climbers, looking for any good hand-hold....if you give them one they will rip the carton to shreds because they are cussing the fact they have to deliver one heavy and awkwardly bulky box.
