Re: unrelated

music is not a test tone. frequencies of sound in music are very complex and are constantly changing. that is why when measuring frequency response on a system designed to play music, we can gate the measurement. if we "clean" 10ms-15ms after impulse, that is normally long enough in most rooms. the later reflections are also a lower percent of impulse. the longer the route, the more reflections, the more energy is lost.
spectral decay is a measurement of this. poor decay at higher than bass frequencies indicates a reflection that "feeds" itself. the reflection amplifies the direct sound which makes the reflection stronger...this will indeed cause fatigue. certain frequencies will be perceived too loud and hang a little too long to sound natural. i've had good results with broadband diffusers for this. the idea is to send different frequencies different directions to ensure they reach the listening position at different times. by physically splitting the frequencies up with the diffuser, you prevent a group of reflected frequencies (music) from feeding itself.
the moral of the story is get rid of the early reflections. if the later reflections are still causing some fatigue, diffuse the sound before it reflects.
