how far is the speaker away from the back wall? what's on the rear wall (bookshelf, plants, sound panels,...etc.)? when i had a pair of 988 i found that a bookshelf a couple of feet behind each speaker improved the sound significantly. it's probably not a good idea to place speakers behind the Quads. since they radiate sound from the front and back, the back waves can excite the drivers of the speakers located behind it.
