MG-IIa high frequencies

Well, I thought the high frequencies were prety nice on my just rebuilt MG-IIa Maggies....until I installed the grille socks.
I was really surprised at the difference. The highs were pleasant without the socks, but became a little too dull with socks.
I'm wondering if replacing the stock (mylar?) caps with decent polys, plus a more transparent grille cloth would be a good plan?
Also, in the archives someone mentioned reversing the polarity of the tweeter from stock. Anyone know about this?
