The fuse bypass tweak, taking the speaker off the floor and better components helps on this. That said, the MMGs are a very good speaker for jazz material. I drove mine with a Linn Classik for a while with pretty good results.
I think the MMG would be an excellent choice, and a lot more room and budget friendly than the 1.6.
