The MG-IIs are very competent speakers. Personally I like them far better than the MMGs. I have owned both.If it were me, I would try to restore them as close to original as I could. That would mean waiting till spring to get the whole kit from Magnepan.
I rebuilt a pair of tympani 1(U)s last winter. A pretty straightforward but labour intensive task.
