...with suspicion at your amplifier. Many Sansuis have trouble with Quads when stretched into amplifying the very small outputs from vinyl pre-stages. The Sansui AU101 (I think) has paricular issues with Quads re: popping on one or both channels also.

Might be totally wrong in your case, but do try another amp if possible.
