I've heard both, although it's been 10yrs since I've owned mmg's. I currently use the MC1's as fronts in my HT setup and they're a step down from the mmgs in my opinion. MC1's only play down to 80hz so you'll need a sub. They are real slick in the WAF dept. though, and I HAD to go that route with my young children playing on the floor in our shared HT/music/ family room. But for 2channel listening, I remove my older Mg.6's (old version of MG12's) from the garage and when set up right it is head and shoulders above the MC1's. Now if I could only keep my kids from bothering them. MMG's are very similar to the Mg.6's. Top to bottom sound is fuller, maybe even a bit more warmth. Mc1's sound a little thin.
Unless WAF is the deciding factor, or placement several feet out into the room is discouraged, I'd go mmg/smg's/mg12's or other small maggies.
Happy listening.
