My two cents worth:

Ficus trees work to some degree because they allow most waves to pass through and hit the rear wall while others are scattered and bounced from the faux foliage.

From what I've read the typical egg crate pads are discouraged (not withstanding Mart's design) and do more harm than good.

The bubble wrap idea sounds intriguing although I'm skeptical of it's reflective plastic composition directly behind a dipole.

Try it anyway; not only behind the speakers but also try moving them to the side and front walls as well and let us know.

But who knows? Couldn't be any kookier than using empty toilet paper rolls to lift speaker cables (which do work btw).
