Either would work out ok, and I have am still using stands similiar to the first one shown.THere have been some others that have struts that fasten toward the top.
If you are going to do it, these type of stands are what I would recommend.
From memory, peter gunn and green lantern have some examples, and I believe a few threads down, there are some recent examples.
