All variants of the LL1692A are available with iron amorphous cores. The sonic difference is not very large in SE applications, but the transparency is increased somewhat with the AM transformer.

I haven't tried it, but I would be surprised if the shunt reg didn't improve the sound. The shunt regulator that I work with has a bypass cap on the board, so additional bypass isn't needed.
