Re: Are you determined to build this amp?

This is not an amp I would want to build. But that is just my opinion...not based on experience or scientific knowledge! (Scary huh)

Claus Byrith has just re-hashed a typical circuit as done so often between the 40's and 60's? Nothing wrong with that.
I think however that Lynn Olson and Allen Wright have advanced the state of the art when it comes to PP valve amps.
(Please forgive me for not mentioning the other pioneers out there, that have done or thought up the same stuff, but just
did not publish it...(or I have not read it))

But according to my set of beliefs (Cultivated over at the AA tube diy section and the internet (Lynn Olson)) Claus has created a noise generator
with his solid state rectifiers and massive power supply caps in the PSU. This is where an amp starts and he
screwed up straight away. (Do I need to say IMO all the time, to avoid upsetting some?)...I believe that a tube based rectifier with damper diodes
or hybrid tube rectified feeding a choke is fundamentally better....a good psu and you are halfway there.

All that is left for a PP amp is good phase splitting...
and with my limited knowledge believe that transformers phase splitting a la Olson or a fully differential driver/phase splitter a la Allen Wright is better
than the more traditional (and cheaper) phase splitter..(better in a musical sense...not square wave performance).

Secondly I dare say that Claus would not ever design an amp without negative feedback. Simply because he believes in global negative feedback. I don't.

Thirdly the ECC83 is not a tube I would use as a driver. (But the jury is still out on this I suppose...as some great amps have been built with that tube)

The scary thing is that I have never even determined those things for myself...but distilled it from the idea's of others. Still these are the things I believe in ...because
they make sense to me.

Here are designs I would want to build.
