Connecting suppressor and screen grids on 4P1L

Can you explain the difference in how you connect the suppressor grid and screen grid on the 4P1L as compared to just using a dropping resistor between these grids and the plate? I see you use a diode on the screen grid which I assume is used to block current and drop voltage some. I also see that the suppressor grid (4-8) is connected to the cathode which makes more sense. I've only used triodes so I'm a little fuzzy on this.
