10V/10A is not an overkill - it exists. I have a 150W German triode with 10V/11.5A. The datasheet emission at 800V is 5A!!!More than 212E. I suspect the filaments are pure thorium. There is also a US tube close to that F127 IIRC. I saw it listed in some '30 book.As for 849 the datasheets say 300W for class A (unless you have 849A then more) and recon less for metal plate versions. The filament is really...weak here...only 55W. I was dissapointed by the lightshow :((
As for the #50 - why bother with this small signal tube? A simple calculation shows that even with 110db/Wm horns 10W is needed to get a SPL of 110db at 3m...make rather 212E!
