I just got an e-mail from Nitty Gritty. They have the old Nylon Brushes
again.

>It's now a black nylon bristle...other than that, it's the same as before.
>The price is $20.95.

I don't think the brush is clearly listed as being Nylon on the web site.

I have heard that the nylon brush might be too aggressive for vinyl. He mentioned using a carbon fiber brush with the fluid for cleaning. Does anyone have any experience with this, or opinions on whether the carbon fiber brush would be better (or worse) than nylon? Carbon fibers might work better since they can reach down to the bottom of the grooves to lift dust, and they are softer than nylon so they don't scratch as much. But maybe they don't have the mechanical strength to lift stubborn dirt?

I ordered some brushes from the Record Doctor a few years ago. These brushes are much better than the brushes supplied with Nitty Gritty. I am very satisfied with the results.

Sounds interesting - I have a record doctor 2 - which is Audio Advisor's version of the manual Nitty Gritty - it came with the velvet(?) brush and I am tempted to get the nylon brush to try to get out some of the pops - but I have two questions. Does it work? Doesn't scrubbing the vinyl lead to more noise - the word scrub and the care I try to take with my vinyl tend not to go together comfortably. Anyone with experience want to set me straight.

A brush with bristles tends to get into the groves better and loosen up the
stuff that is in there. IMO, it should work better than the velvet.

Not really, as long as the bristles are soft and you are not using alot of
force.

I've had some stuff on used records that was caked on, sticky
like glue (I hope it was glue) or dry and crusty. Some how you have to
get that stuff off. It is so bad that a brush and scrubbing won't do it.
That is the time I wish I had a bottle of that power cleaner made by LAST.
I forget what number and what they call it, probably number 1.

Nylon as opposed to what? I have a Nitty Gritty. I have no idea what kind of brush I have.

For a short period of time, Nitty Gritty only had a brush that was
basically a velvet pad. That's what I found out when I was at Nitty
Gritty about two years ago and tried to get a new brush to clean/scrub
my records.

Sorry for the confusion, I guess I also forgot to mention that the brush
is mainly used with the manual machines.
