Way early and way to unknowledgeable cart question?

This is a very remote vinyl question. I am looking at getting a new preamp, some of them have an internal phono supply, some even have a choice of MM or MC phono based units.

I am not looking for one, but if it has one and knowing that the only TT I have is an old Technics and have a Shure V15, Shure 95 and AudioTechnica cart.

What the heck are they MM or MC?
What phono type would be more solid choice knowing that I may not ever really get into the vinyl world?

Interesting hypothetical ...
is the lure of pressed petroleum
a possibility in your future? ;-)

The Shures are likely MMs.
The AT could be either.

MM would be the way to go.

MC is really for the harder-core
addicts (and many of them don't
care for them either).

Old things are new again.

Got hundreds of records that haven't see light of day for over 12 years (except for small 4 record session 2 years ago)

Very secondary to getting a solid CD based illusion machine built. Speakers and amp are very firm foundation.

Exactly as I suspected.

Even if you decide to go strictly digital now,
later, if the mood strikes you, for $700 or so,
you could be listening to them again
