I need some information on these pieces.
Sony Table, Empire cartridge.

Yesterday, I spent my afternoon and evening with a budding Vinyl lover. He's 20 or 21, is an engineering student locally and got curious about vinyl after his uncle donated the table. He contacted me and came over with the table. I showed him this forum, and he read many of the FAQ links here on setup and understands it pretty well. I "made" him do the setup himself.

We cleaned stuff up and aligned everything, then set cart for 2 gm, 2 gm antiskating. But, we cannot find anything about the cartridge. Nevertheless, the TT plays well and stably although detail with the arm and cart is obviously not the best. It did track pretty well at 2 gm.

Can anyone help? Nothing on these archives and nothing on Google and nothing on VinylEngine. There is a listing of the specs and a pic of the manual on VE.

I purchased this TT when I was in high school. It sat at my parents house for years with my old stereo. I still have the TT in a box somewhere. I originally had an Acutex cartridge on it which I believe is a cut well above the Empire. My father would play it occasionally and finally the stylus went bad. I did not want to spend a lot of money on it at the time so I put a Grado ZTE (precursor to the Grado Black) cartridge on it.

Depending upon how much his uncle used the TT, it is possible the stylus is worn on the Empire. He may want to upgrade the cartridge anyway. If he decides to get a better TT, he can always remove the cartridge and put it on a different TT.

I hope your budding Vinyl lover friend enjoys his new endeavor!

Thanks. I still want to hear for someone who can link me with some information, esp proper tracking force on the Empire.

We discussed upgrade already, and I told him to get a AT 95/e or Shure (he actually has a M55 body without stylus), so I assume the uncle installed the Empire later). Maybe Shure M97xe or Ortofon something or Grado (?hum).
