Greetings; I just found this awesome forum! I have two turntables that need to be fixed, but only can fix one at this time. My Thorens TD 160 needs a new cartridge, and my Music Hall MMF5 needs a new stylus. I guess the real question is which table will sound better in my system. the MMF5 has a Goldring 1012GX. I would probably end up spending around $300 on a new cartridge for the TD 160. associated equipment is a Creek OBH phono preamp, Outlaw Audio receiver, and KLH model Nine speakers. I know my system is not very balanced, but it is what I have been able to put together. any advise will help tremendously. Thank you.

Welcome to the Asylum-
KLH 9s - quite nice

As to the TT/Cart question - there are Lots of links in the FAQ section-
The Thorens is a great table - I had one many years ago-
The Music Hall TT is different - and some might say better - probably has a better arm than the stock Thorens arm -

For me it would be a coin toss- and to then save up and fix the second-
Happy Listening

Toss a coin? Whichever comes 1st, it will be nice.

More than $50 less expensive than $300 is this AT item. It will be safe on the Thorens TT. Grado may "sound" better than AT, but Grado is vulnerable to hum pickup from an unshielded AC motor and there's a good possibility of that being present in the TT.

....and I would take the Thorens, based on both sound quality and build. However, if I had more warped records than I do now the clamp on the Music Hall would tip the scale for me. I want access to all of my music, YMMV.

below is a link to some possible mods to improve its performance. Disclaimer, I only stream now. Brother ended up with my 124 with a Black Widow arm.
