Replacing Smoked N5532 Op Amps

I cooked a channel in my dac output doing something I realize was very wrong. Stereo Y cable from the RCA outputs on the Dac to mini plug mic-in jack on a laptop. Worked before on other computers but I think I got mixed up and was likely using stereo line-in on those and the laptop only has the mic-in. The mic-in jack on the laptop likely mono to boot.

One channel works fine but the other is very faint.

Hoping to just replace the existing burnt ones first with equivalents just to see if I can get it working again. (Maybe opamp rolling down the road.) Already removed the 2 burnt opamps from the PCB.

Long story short I thought ordering replacements would be easy. But there are a lot of part number extensions and variations that are confusing me. So I don't know what to order?

If anyone can help that would be great. I usually order from Digi-Key or Mouser bit not critical. I know Partsconnexion here in Canada appear to be for the upgrade path.

 They take into account sizes, mounts, any lead content and a few other things. Not expensive so I ordered a couple kinds and extras just to be safe. Interesting reading. Hope they work out. Not ready for a new dac just yet.

 Yes, thank you. I see those would have worked out.

I ended up ordering NE5532PSR and NE5532APSR. Older stock I believe but match physically in body size to those I have on hand. I think these older ones though still RoHS compliant also have more lead content. Same with the solder on the PCB as it was certainly easy to remove them and clean up.

For the minimal extra cost I should have ordered some of the NE5532DR you suggested to also have on hand. Thanks again!

 All of them should work just fine if they are the same package size. They all have pretty much the same performance. The NE5532 is still a great chip, but a lot of people love to hate on it. It will not be the weak ling in the system.

 Appreciate your comment. I'm thinking the same way about the NE5532. Lots of discussion about them and opamps in general.

When my Dac first came out a reviewer even questioned it's use of NE5532 in the build. That was 10+ years ago and he still uses the dac in one of his reference systems after all that time. That's why I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can bring my Dac back to life.

 I know I'm late to this, but any way you could have replace with a socket so future 'tests' would be easier?

 Sockets would be nice but it would definitely take some creativity to do. Very little room above and to the sides. I would likely need an adapter and a wired extender to make a horizontal configuration. Even that might be tight.

But I am so impressed with the overall sound just using the tighter toleranced NE5532APSR vs my stock NE5532 that I can see what all the opamp fuss is about. Definitely worth exploring. (Unless it was just my using silver solder!)
