I came across this carbon fiber AC outlet wall plate that fits a standard North American duplex AC outlet for only $20. As a conventional wall plate that happens to be made of 5mm thick laminated carbon fiber composite material, this is about as good as it gets at such a low price point.

Like that of an AC plug and IEC connector with a carbon fiber layer inlay over the shell, a laminated carbon fiber composite wall plate makes a significant impact on the performance of an AC outlet, since the semi-conductive material is effective at absorbing and dissipating the complex stray magnetic fields caused by the wire terminations, and to dissipate a level of mechanical resonances, as well.

It shows just how important energy transfer between an AC outlet/AC connector interface tends to be, not just the energy transmission provided by the power cable itself, in the middle of it all.

 I sent this a friend as a joke and he had me order three of them for him because he said "I think Duster knows his shit." So now I have a pair coming as well. Can't say I'm looking forward to tearing the system down to get to my two outlets, but it's a one time thing. This will be a "on faith" basis because there's no A/B testing that can be easily done.

Of course, now I'm thinking about the outlets themselves since they are the el cheapo contractor pack variety. Any suggestions for a somewhat econo but still audiophile approved outlet?

 Keep in mind a carbon fiber AC outlet wall plate will not provide jaw-dropping results, since it provides the type of incremental improvement that a device such as this tends to offer. That said, unless you upgrade the sub par AC outlets you mentioned, it will essentially be polishing a turd. There is no economy version Audio Grade AC outlet I can recommend based on direct experience. In my experience, an audiophile-quality AC outlet is a high-end device with extra expense involved. That said, the Pangea Premier SE AC outlet is a gold-plated phosphor bronze design that seems to be worthy of its $49.95 price tag.

 but in a pinch you can by 20 ampere rated outlets at HD or Lowes, or maybe a hardware store. About $6

 marc, here is a review of some receptacles. The Hubble 5362 is well regarded by some, including myself. One inmate thought it was the best he has heard until he tried the Oyaide RO. The Hubble is on the warm side with good bass performance and a forward midrange. It is not bright. My opinion of course. For like $15 bucks you can't go too far wrong.

 Make sure you use brass center screws as opposed to steel. Also I believe that one can tune them a bit by how tight the screw is.

 A non-magnetic stainless steel screw is preferable, but brass is perfectly fine.

The screw should not be tightened with too much torque, since the laminated carbon fiber composite material is too brittle.

The carbon fiber AC outlet wall plate can be too easily broken that way.

 Duster I hate to be a spoil-sport, but are you sure this is really carbon fiber? It's awfully cheap for the real thing. An easy test would be to use a multimeter with pointed probes and measure resistance between two points.
Genuine carbon fiber is not a great conductor, but it is a conductor.

Please try this test for us, Inquiring minds want to know!

 The $120 Furutech 104D is a brass face plate finished in carbon and glass fiber. The Oyaide faceplate is a system with an aluminium frame and a carbon fiber plate. For $20 I'm curious.

 I understand the hesitation to believe its actually a laminated carbon fiber composite material, but I'm very experienced with carbon fiber products from China, and they are always the real deal.

Since the carbon fibers are uncased within epoxy, there is no resistance to measure on the carbon fiber AC outlet wall plate installed at the wall for my computer workstation system. The semi-conductive fibers are essentially insulated. The carbon fiber faceplate of an authentic Oyaide WPC-Z aluminum bracket with carbon fiber faceplate system installed at the wall for my main audio system also does not provide conductivity to measure. It will be easy to identify the material when I can inspect it, but I have no doubt that it's actually a carbon fiber product. The seller is sending a sample to me. It should arrive within a few weeks.

 The seller of the $20 unit states the material is carbon fiber while others state that theirs are not real CF but CF lookalike.

 I have an independent local hardware store that has every imaginable fastener available. But just buy a brass screw if it is easier to find. There will be no real difference other than minor factors, so brass is fine for the purpose. Even the screw that came with whatever AC outlet is installed at the wall will be okay to use, if you are not a perfectionist. Don't sweat the small stuff, in this case.

 I haven't come across a low-cost product, yet. I'll ask the seller if there might be one in the works, Skip.

It's taken quite some time for a standard North American sized, single duplex carbon fiber AC outlet wall plate to become available from the Chinese marketplace.
