I had this serviced around seven years ago.

Sounds great except that recently I get this background noise even when a station is tuned in perfectly. Is there anything I can try doing before bringing it in to be serviced again?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Where in SoCal are you?
KUSC and KCRW both had excellent transmitting standards - both also have repeater stations, so you may well be able to get them in other adjacent regions (Late'80s, I received their signal in Santa Barbara....)
You should also try KPFK - I am more familiar with KPFA, in Berkeley, CA; however their stereo signal is the highest quality signal I have found here in NorCal - and KPFK is the SoCal affiliate ....

The bit about HD radio is a real factor-

You also might look at other changes that you have made in your system -
New CDP?
New cables (perhaps less shielding?)?
The Accuphase Tuners are quite good- by most ratings...though I have not had the pleasure of having one to use...

Happy Listening

This tuner was designed before the plague of HD radio, which can add noise. First, do you have a strong signal? If you do, and the noise goes away in mono, it could be from HD. If so, check some other stations that do not broadcast HD (check hdradio.com); see if they are similar. Finally, check with the station and with other local audiophiles to see whether they have similar problems. If it's just you, try a different tuner at your location. Good luck!

Double check the antenna connections and the interconnects-

also try some stations at different ends of the dial
