Tuner won't respond to antenna

 I have a sansui TU 717 tuner. I have tried a c crane fm dipole, mounted on a mast outside, and a basic indoor antenna. The tuner gets the same reception, which is 4 out of 5 and just passable, whether it is connected or not to the antennas. Is this something a reallignment could address?

 I assume both antennas are 300 ohm and you are using the correct t connection points and there is not a little piece of wire shorting the two screws out.

 Great tuna. It's well worth it to get it tuned up/ fixed. Good luck with it.

 Alignment alone, maybe. If it hasn't had electrolytics replaced, considering the age, that should be done at the same time. And that may address the problem. I haven't heard a 717 but they have a good reputation, I would think it would be worth it.

 I had a TU-717 and a 917 restored. Great performance and a great looking tuner but both sounded awful.

I was using mostly Marantz tuners at the time and they are known for their sweet sound. However even my cheap dumpster dive digital tuners at the time sounded better.

 Thank-you for the input. There was a 717 not too long ago on CL and I was tempted because I had never heard one. Glad now I didn't.

I mentioned this in other posts, have tried maybe a dozen tuners over the years, with my system, preferences etc., Scott 310E is what I ended up choosing.

 If you're saying that disconnecting the antenna from your Sansui TU-717 has no effect on the signal you receive from a variety of stations (not just one station), then I'd say that your tuner requires service.
