I have Brimar ECF80 with code 3L9/1786 does this mean 1959 or 1969?
Does the 3 place code mean the early year?
Thanks

If the tube was made in the 1950's the manufacturing code would have read as 3L9/786. The addition of a fourth digit (in this case 1) preceding the 786 part of the code is distinct in identifying a tube manufactured by Brimar in the 1960's. From the date code given, the tube was most likely manufactured in the 3rd week of December 1969. The 786 part of the code would be common to tubes manufactured in both the 1950's and 1960's and indicates the internal Brimar revision code used to signify an ECF80 tube.
