Members of this forum contributed with both technical advice and skepticism to my 101D/102D/REN1064 amp project, so the photo comes here. The 500 mW monoblocs feeding the Avantgarde Duo's play music with powerful performance! Distortion free, alive, open and dynamic with silent background. This is my best sounding SET amp along with the RE604. The 101D has a DHT driver which give a little more open, direct sound.

Hi Al,
The voltages and operating points are kept. No feedback. Each filament have separate pwr. supply with Lundahl chokes. HT supplies are my design, RGN1064 rect. tube followed by C-L-C-L-R-C filter. No electrolyics, only film caps except Black Gates for the cathodes. I will make a schematic later. The amps are dead quiet, no hum/noise. What surprise me is the performance of these tubes which orginate from 1919. (Mine are from ca. 1925 with an expected lifetime 40.000 hours) Listening through HQ material, they are even more detailed/lively/dynamic than my reference until now, the RE604 SET amps. That is probably due to the direct heated driver tubes. There is obviously a good synergy with the Avantgarde Duo's too.

I admire your craftsmanship they look like a work of art.
It would be so cool if there were more speakers that a small amp could drive.

Congrats, it's very rare that something of that caliber shows up here. Is that top panel polished aluminum or something else?

In my last SET amps I have used 3 mm brass, polished and nickel plated.
Not the easiest or economical, but I think the old tubes and the musical result deserve the cosmetic. Wish you could hear they play, they work perfect and better than I had expected. The tubes have a history back to 1914, mine are from 1925 and have an expected lifetime 40.000 hours. Not bad?

Thanks. May be they can control the 104 dB Klipsch Belle or -horn.
There are many high-efficient horn speakers available.
Now I understand fully the amazing synergy in small SET amps and big horns.

Interesting you should say that. Nickel polishes really well, and I've been thinking about it for the aluminum pieces I make. Maybe I'll give it a try, rather than reassembling my anodizing system. The sulphuric acid and other chemicals are a pain to deal with.

Yes, I'll bet the sound is superb. Those are also the best looking amps I've seen in some time. Really a great job!

The schematic - For the Asylum members.

The monobloc amplifiers are named Geiru-Chan after my son.
He was called so by the japanese when living in Nagasaki with my family. His real name is Geir which is a Norse wiking's name meaning spear or the tip of the spear.
