Pictures I upload to other sites remain sharp and clear but those displayed here, For Example, look as if someone made off with half the Pixels.

It looks like the Asylum is automatically compressing and scaling the photos down to around 1000 pixels wide. This is fine in most cases but not so great when I post a screen capture that includes text. The text that starts out crisp ends up soft and blurry in my post. In those cases I will post the pictures from my own site using inline html.

Original Image hosted from my own site:

The 1600 pixel wide photo above is hosted on my own site and posted to the Asylum with inline (img src="https://....) html.

Same original image directly posted via the Asylum:

The 1600 pixel wide image above was auto scaled down to 1000 pixels wide and compressed by the Asylum. Note the loss in picture quality especially the soft blurry text.

well depending on whose photograph it is, that could be considered a feature ;)

Well, as Abe mentioned, yes, we do convert images to a max of 1,000 pixels and then resize them for the largest size, either width or height, and then save the images using ImageMagick.

I just increased max size to 1,200 pixels.

The problem is that with 4K cameras, most people can only see a quarter of the image on an HD monitor and would need to scroll around to see the image. It also makes a huge difference in the space required for images. Simply resaving the image can reduce the size a lot depending on the camera without any obvious degradation.

We are also in the process of building a new web server and upgrading the SSD drives, so space won't be as dear as it had been in the past. I'm also slowly working on a responsive design to better handle phones and tablets. As we implement that code base, we can display images to fit the device width automatically which solves the scrolling issues.

Hi Rod - In most cases higher resolution photos or screen captures that are auto-scaled to 1000 pixels wide seem just fine - IMHO. A little detail is lost and mostly noticeable in the lost sharpness of text within the image. No big deal IMHO but thanks for increasing the scaling to 1200 pixels.
