New subversive in the house.

My partner called my (constant) audio purchases "subversive," but he loved good music. Just arrived, a pair of Dick Sequerra's Met 7 Mark II speakers for the desktop, found on ebay. They're as good as I remembered. Good enough, in fact, to warrant freeing a pair of Manley amps from their current duty as dust collectors.

Dick first became known when he designed the legendary Marantz 10-B tuner with Saul Marantz. Then he made speakers, and then... high-end spark plugs. Really. I don't know if he ever sold any.

He was a character. I called him a few times and we always ended up gabbing for an hour. He was a true Enthusiast - my favorite kind of people.

Saul Marantz was very important to high end audio in the old days. But he was not and audio designer at all. He was the man who got the best designers to work for him like Dick Sequerra. He did dip his hand if the final designs though by being the industrial designer who designed front panels for his products. And I have always considered the Marantz 7 preamp to be the most beautiful preamp ever.

the cool looking Sequerra tuner that used dreadful LM301 op amps.

I have the original Met 7's for my TV - very nice and good enough, posted on October 1, 2023 at 09:10:45

I don't do the home theatre unless I hook it up to my Quads. Nice score

My error: it was Sidney Smith who worked with Dick on the 10-B.

You're lucky that I didn't buy them first. :-)

It looks like the same pair (no grills) that I was looking at a while back. It was between the Met 7 Mark IIs and a pair of Jmlab Micron Titane speakers. I decided to go with the Micron Titanes as I already have a pair of the original Sequerra Met 7s.
