Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes. I would like to try a pair Wharfedale 225s with my Mcintosh MC 240 amp. Getting them Music Direct and they have a nice return policy. The stated sensitivity is rated at 87db. Not real super efficient. They will be used in a 9 x12 room on stands.
I wonder if the amp will be able to drive the 225s? I don't intend to play them a ear shattering levels. The 225s are rated at 8 ohms so I intend on using the 8 ohm taps on the MC240. Your opinions are appreciated.

sounds like you are taking the best path -
buy, understanding the return policy-
listen and see what happens-
They could work nicely together
but nothing beats the in-home audition!
Happy Listening

Thanks. Will see if the MC240 and Diamond 225 are a good match.

But they seem to be available from several other sources.

I've had a couple of pair of Wharfedale "Diamond" series standmount speakers over the years, and found them pleasant but nothing spectacular. Easy to drive, even with a low powered receiver, and more than adequate for moderate listening levels in a small room like yours. Your Mac won't have any issues with them.

There are competitive offerings from Polk, Elac, and others in the same size/price category, if you want to do more research.

i know about the Elac speakers. The ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 have a very good reputation. I figure it would be fun to try new stuff. Crutchfield is a good resource. At 68 my hearing ain't what it used to be. I can afford to move up the food chain. Have been using a pair of OHM CAM 32s updated by Sound Projects here in Baltimore. I have a feeling that the Wharfedale 225 will sound better. 30 year newer technology. I know that a small room is difficult to deal with regarding speakers. In order to get the spatial imaging you need smaller speakers. I personally don't like to use a subwoofer for stereo to supplement bass. I have a pair of Quad 21L that were in the bedroom. Did not matter which amplifier I used they sounded congested. Moved them to our HT setup as front speakers and they sound great in that environment. I guess part of the fun-frustration of being an audiophile is trying to find that perfect set up.
