An older friend gave me his Smaller Advents that he got in college in the early '70s. I had them refoamed and now use them in my kitchen with a Nakamichi receiver. I luv 'em. They sound rich, wide-range and just plain fun. A solid, classic speaker. You'll have fun!

1973-1980 using the tweeter similar to the Large Advent but green and a woofer that was mass loaded with a huge spitball of papier-mâché as the dustcap. It wasn't really small, just smaller than the large advent.

Give em a google look

I had a local tech refoam them. As I was checking them in, his front desk clerk was punching them into the computer record and asked "what's the model number?" The tech laughed and laughed and said "The Smaller Advent!" They aren't very small: the woofer is 9.5" and they have a pretty impressive bass response.

The smaller Advents have that mass of wood pulp fiber adhered to the center of the cone (for added mass, to lower the driver's resonant frequency). That makes refoaming a bit trickier, because the mass can make the cone lean one way or another while the glue is setting, and you might get some voice coil rubbing.

I have seen some folks cut that pulp mass off, shim the coil, glue on the new foam, and reglue the pulp mass. Even if you're a surgeon, cutting and regluing that pulp mass will leave a mess. You can avoid that if you're really careful. When you glue on the new surround, keep the driver on its back, pointing straight up and level, and before the glue dries, gently press the cone vertically to make sure the voice coil isn't rubbing.

Good luck. I have a pair of smaller Advents (bought new, refoamed once and caps replaced with mylar films) and I think they're great.

to fit on my speaker stands. I would be happier with the Baby Advent #1's I think. The woofer is 6 1/2" and the tweeter is 1" which is ideal for my stands. Either Advent or a/d/s bookshelves are on my radar right now.....

I found out both tweeters are blown.

They get blown off.

They are history. I traded them off for a Carver receiver 2000.

It's easy and effective.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
