 Hi,

I am looking to replace my 11 years old PMC TB2i - a two-way 6.5" mid / bass 1" soft dome tweeter with same size mid / bass, but with a 1" metal dome tweeter. I listen mainly to Rock/Jazz fusion so I want a speaker to show high-frequencies on the recording with little to no roll off in the highs. I like my PMC's ability to sound loud and powerful so I am looking for the same. I was thinking of the B&W 705 S2 or the Signature but they sounded light to me.

My listening room is 16.5 x 21 feet open concept type. My budget is about $3500.00

 Tweeter material is irrelevant to perceived top end level or brightness. Some soft dome tweeter will pierce your ears and some metal are smooth as silk. It is the implementation.
And B&W? That will be huge step down for my ears.

 I have the Grand Fathers of the VR series. These are the Counterpoint speaker named Clearfield Audio. Mine are the Continentals and come very close to looking like the VR-33 except they don't have the 10" woofer in them. Very nice sounding speakers. Check them out!

 Going from PMC to B&W sounds like a downgrade to me
According to your music taste and need for high SPL from what is essentially a small driver (6,5inch) I would stay firmly put with brands basically selling studio monitors in a domestic outfit.
Any particular reason you wanna keep it bookshelf size?

 Hi,

My listening room is 16.5 X 21 feet open concept type, so the size of the PMC is ideal with a 6.5 mid / bass driver that fill the room. I also enjoy a 6.5" mid / bass as it produces a bigger sound than say 5" .

PMC used to sell a passive TB2 over 11 years ago but they have only a large three-way speakers. My PMC TB2i was derived from the TB2 but with a less analytical made for home vifa tweeter.

 Did you consider PMC Twenty22 ? If you do not want another PMC, why not ATC like the SCM 19? If it is possible to go for floorstanders why not audition the GoldenEar speakers? Or Tekton.

 Hi,

A floor stand speakers will be overpowering in my room. I was interested in the ATC SCM19 but I was told that its highs are rolled off and smooth.

Thee is however the SCM20PSL Pro which sounds pretty good but with 6" woofer which I can probably live with.

 I changed my amp and decided to get new speakers. I bought Audio Physic Step Plus's: extended highs and holographic soundstaging. They retail for around $3,000. Have a listen.

I'm about to get on the Merry-Go-Round once again, because I'm thinking of replacing them. Hopefully I'll get it done in the next 6 months.

 One thing you might want to look into are Spatial Audio's speakers or open baffle (OB) speakers.
Pros vs. Cons: easy to drive, lightweight (for a full range) very live sounding with tight, full bass, excellent imaging, dynamic.
They (like all larger speakers) should be out in the room about 3' and the same from side walls.
Contrary to opinion, OB speakers do not excite room nodes, and are designed to be room friendly while maintaining that open sound common to live events.
Just my two cents (I own the Spatial Audio M3 turbos S).

 being used. That may influence the type of speaker recommendations you get, or even that you might be better off upgrading the electronics instead. Just a thought that I hope is helpful.

 You will get about one hundred & ten suggestions, but for $3500 you have a lot of options.

I like my B&W 805s, & I'd think with your budget you should be able to do better than those.

If I were you, I'd shop Music Direct. They have a 60 day audition period, & looking at all the "open box" specials, they must honor it.
