Why were my subwoofers booming at me with the system off?

Watching the golf match yesterday and suddenly there was thunder that was too regular and too close to be natural. Seemed like 60Hz, like kick drum, 3 or 4 times one second apart and then quiet for a few minutes and repeat.

The subs are on "auto" all the time, have been for months, and the gain is pretty low. My TV speakers sit on top of them but are wired through their own amp to the TV and completely separate from the main system. The outlets, now that I think about it, are in series with the TV.

I had to get up and turn the switches on both from "auto" to "off".

Go and ge the sub's amps checked Could be a sign that the amps are ready to play out.
