Hi,
I have pretty much nailed it down to an Audio Note M6 phono for the preamp. Now the power amp! I have heard the Conquest Silver and it sounded very good with the M6. I have not heard the Conquest silver signature though. Have anyone heard them both to be able to tell me how significant is the difference between them ?

If I go Conquest Silver I will possibly be able to buy more of the Sogon 50 cables and AN Isis power cords, so the accessories will be of a higher grade and even the SUT would be a AN-S4 instead of AN-S3. If I go Conquest Silver Signature I will have to keep with AN-Vx cables and AN-S3 SUT. What would you suggest ?

Here is the other question - how will you know if you need low gain or regular gain version of the amps. More options to confuse matters.

He's buying the M6. AN can tell him which version of the Conquests.

My experience with the Conqueror Silver is that my 10 ohm gain linestage preamp needed attenuating to run well with normal gain version of the Conqueror.

What types of part upgrades come with the Signature version?

I have ISIS power cords throughout my system and am very pleased with them.

My system is not Audio Note. I have custom versions of the Emotive Audio Epifania linestage and Vita power amps. Details are on my system page.

I don't know what connectors AN supplies on the ISIS mains cables. I bought bulk ISIS mains cable and tried a couple different connectors before settling on Furutech F-11M Copper AC plugs and FI-11 Ag IEC plugs. This combination sounds great to my ears but only with a Furutech Gold IEC inlet on the amp or preamp. I now use a Furutech FI-06 Gold inlet on each of my components.

I have heard them both, but before the new electrolytic caps and resistors came out. I have found that they made an audible improvement in my Conqueror Silver. Find out if they are in the new models of the Conquest SS. Otherwise, i'm not sure I'd do it, although the old Conquests SSs i heard were a small but welcome improvement over the S model to my ears.

Frihed89, from your post it seems that there is a new model of Conquest Silver and Silver Signature, am I right ?

If you felt that the old Silver and old Silver Signature were sounding very close then the same should apply for the newer models isnt it ?

I'm not sure. Last year they came out with new resistors and electrolytic caps. I am not sure if they have been installing these, differentially (or at all), in the Conquest line. I hope so. Ask AN.

I have tried the new Audio Note Silver tantalum resistors in a number of places in my electronics and they make such a positive difference that I would opt for them whenever possible. I was curious which level of Conquest might be including the Silver tantalums. For what it's worth, I have not been as impressed with the other new AN resistors, the copper non-magnetic tantalums.

The new electrolytics go by the name "Kaisei". The new resistors are non-magnetic tantalums. The best of these have silver endcaps and leadouts. Consult HiFi Collective's "components" for both

Not to use Audio Note Silver Tantalums in amps like Conquests which use output transformers with copper winding. He feels it does not sound balanced. I am looking for some upgrades for my Conquest SS but even for that Peter feels I should stick to copper foil coupling caps and non-magnetic copper Tantalums. Kaisei electrolytic caps was highly recommended though.

Mainly it's a better output transformer with higher grade core. There are maybe some tantalum resitors and black gate caps too. Having two choices I would go with signature version and lesser cables . Cables are easier to upgrade down the road than transformer /parts . See the upgrade bill on Audiogon's pair of P4 monos.

Most of what i heard in the older models was coming from the UHiB OPTs, i think. OPTs will always make a difference.

The Silver has IHiB transformers and Silver Signature has SHiB output transfomers. UHiB comes in only in the Kassai model.
