Michael Head is a big favorite, going all the way back to the Pale Fountains in the 80s and Shack in the 90s. The Magical World of the Strands from 1997 by Michael Head and the Strands is one of my all time favorites (and just got a nice vinyl reissue in 2015, highly recommended). One of the best modern songwriters.
