Would Google Chrome show a full page demand to upgrade now?

I had a full page Chrome logo that read nothing but "upgrade now" take over a news page I was reading. I deleted it.

Is that legit or do I have something bad in the house Avast ignored?

So I found a site that describes what you probably saw. I would not blame this on chrome or on your computer, it is an advertisement, but a deceptive one that is trying to get a naive user to install almost certain malware. I don't use chrome much, I use Firefox and with the noscript add on, all these scripts are unable to run. But there will always be scammers trying to trap users. Just today I opened an email from FedEx only to realize it was another scammer. Clicking on an attachment to this kind of email can kill you. It just takes one mistake.

It's not from Chrome..... Look at the address in your webrowser if you get it again... And yes delete it.

I closed Chrome and searched on Edge (boy is that opaque) for the event and read it was no big deal but I figured it originated somewhere. I ran Malwarebytes which found 2 bad things and quarantined them.

All Malwarebytes tells you is that they were PUP somethings. For all I know I was quarantining some Windows Registry. Why are programmers so damn short on critical thinking?

They're not! ---- It's just that people that aren't programmers, have no idea what they're talking about.
