On the Italian NextHardware I have just published a test article on AudioLinux - this new RT OS is based on Archlinux, it's perfect for HQPlayer with a whole series of dedicated scripts and it's already setup for HQPlayer Embedded for the use of a client on smartphone/tablet.
However, it can also be easily used for mpd, jriver...

Same performance? Look at the graphs at www.audio-linux.com and try to repeat the test on your machine

Hi!

Is there any way to install it in hard drive, please? My USB drive is so slow...

Not sure. There are so many Audio Linux distros available today.

It's just another one. What is the value add??

Todays kernels are all preemptible. The whole process/irq handling has much improved over the last years.

I played around with realtime kernels for quite a long time. Meanwhile I think a low latency kernel is all I need.

Beside that I consider headless OSses such as Volumio, Rune Audio, Squeeze in Arch my preferd choice. They all come with or allow for
audio related optimizations.

Cheers

Have you ever used or tried HQPlayer? AudioLinux is particualrly setup for this player and, if you wish to use a smartphone/tablet, you also require MinimServer and Rygel which are already included.
If on the other hand you are mainly interested in bit perfect playback, HQPlayer is not for you.
