Faust is quickly becoming my favorite post-physical media artist. Her Bach Sonatas and Partitas were wonderful, if a little closely-recorded, and I've really enjoyed her Bartok Violin Concerti.

Last night I downloaded their Beethoven Spring Sonata. First of all, recording is extremely roomy and sound is pliant: performers are about 20 seats away, which is ideal for my listening environment and tastes. Secondly, the singing quality of Faust's playing is enchanting. The slow mov't floats on air, and so did I. In fact, at the end of the 2nd mov't, I was so loathe to break the silence, I turned off my system and went to bed.

Great listening session. Patty the Piccolo player in my head was almost impressed enough to take a break for the night. Almost....

Do give the Spring Sonata a try. If you've heard her Berg/Beethoven Concerto album, do tell me what you think.

 Playing the numbers from the very album. And I very much enjoyed her style. She's making a debut at the Orchestra Hall next season with Krivine/CSO playing Schumann's Violin Concerto.
Here is my fave Faust: Archduke with Queyras ( another fave! )

 this is a great set. Some interpretive liberties and even slight embellishments on the score, all of which work. Two players truly in sync and who recognize the equal partnership role of the piano. My one cavil with some of the classic versions is the accompanist style of the pianist (ahem, Heifetz and Bay/Smith). Not here.

 Your download is from the complete set of sonatas released on three-and-a-half CDs in 2009 (the second side of the fourth CD is a DVD video showing "the making of" the recordings). Alina Ibragimova's set is my favorite with this Isabelle Faust set a close second.

 Thanks to eclassical, I can download it by the track. Based upon the Spring, I'll be completing the set pretty quick.

 It's not like something I can play on the 'main system' when the wife is in the house.

Like Shostakovich and Schnittke, it's 'headphone' music in this household. ;-)

Just got this one in the mail, purchased on the recommendation of inmate 'Amphissa', wife loves the Symphony No. 1.
