If you like unusual musicians, there is a left-handed cellist in that orchestra..... The only one I've seen.

And many others...thought Todd Krieged or others would attend.

Hmm. . . the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra tomorrow (March 15) followed by the National Orchestra of the Ukraine next week.

Interesting sequence, given the current political situation! ;-)

Given that, yes, I'm surprised that Todd hasn't chimed in. The Prokofiev 2 is my favorite violin concerto too.

Temirkanov is not the most exciting conductor I know of however - he's generally OK though. I've seen him conduct the SPPO a couple of times in Davies (they seem to tour every couple of years), and the only thing I remember about either of those concerts is that the guest soloist for one of them, J-Fi, played the Beethoven Concerto very well! ;-)

I have to check if her playing has recovered..... I thought it diminished greatly over the past two years..... (See John Marks' comment about the "drooped scroll".) She just doesn't play with the same intensity and enthusiasm that initially drew me in.

I think she may have been burned out from heavy touring..... I don't know.

For those familiar with Sayaka in her early years, this is depressing to watch..... She once had a beaming presence and eye contact with the audience...... It's totally gone.... She looked as if she wished she were either someplace else or doing something else.......

The playing has greatly diminished..... The phrasing is gone..... The intonation has deteriorated..... The "polish" and "explosiveness" are also gone. (If I heard just the audio, I wouldn't have thought it was Sayaka.)

Tchaik Violin Concerto.

That IS strange about the drooping position of the violin, posted on March 16, 2017 at 16:10:46

You'd think someone would point that out to her.

OTOH, maybe when you heard her before, she was using autotune! ;-)
