You never know. Some cats gravitate to their scratching preferences. Some don't. Kittens will play climbing those speakers.

Expect they'll stretch on it. But maybe not.

Squirt bottles of water work well as negative feedback.

use the Magnepans as scratching posts because of their dimensions and cloth outer sock ...... or as some like to call it " condom "

Three cats, all brought home as kittens over the 25 years I've owned Magnepans and none of them have ever touched the speakers. I suppose I've been lucky. They will occasionally take a nap on a warm power amp on standby.

They're not that big!

During 20-odd years of Maggie ownership - when I had a cat - I never had a problem with the cat scratching the cover ... or pissing on it.

their lair was the living space on the second and third levels. And one liked to perch atop an amplifier in his bedroom loft where he had a small system for the TV.

The main systems, however, were located on the ground floor and the door at the top of the staircase was always closed to prevent them from wandering down.

I purchased the 1+1s currently used in the HT from a guy who had cats and not surprisingly, the socks were horribly pilled. Fortunately, there is enough space between them and the actual diaphragms to prevent tears. Replacing the socks with tight spandex was the first thing I updated!

I have had a pair of 3.6R speakers for over 20 years and during that time 7 different cats have scratched the speakers cloth maybe 5 or 6 times. This is not a problem you need to worry about.

In my experience, cats are far more interested in sleeping on the power amp than clawing speaker cloth. Worry about cat fur in the power amp if you need something to worry about :-)

I go to the hobby shop and get a couple of foam-core panels, lean them in front of the speakers when I'm not using them. Works fine.

I still listen to some of his to some of his beliefs.

Cats do what they want and all cats are different.

1. Don't have cats
2. If you must have them, get them declawed. No, it's not cruel and it's not painful to have it done. They can still defend themselves, climb trees and kill lots of bird, rodents and snakes that they won't eat.

Most houses that have cats have some odor that owners of them can't detect. It seems a risk having a cat. You might get lucky if you interact with them though.
