So this was a little bit of a journey but I finally got the LRS to be fire breathing dragons with tons of bass and dynamics but more importantly - great rock speakers.

Of course room placement was critical and that was done by moving the sofa and spending 2 solid hours playing with speaker position which I got close and was insanely fiddley. When I got everything to pop into place soundstage wise I then used a laser measuring pointer to fine tune the distance from my chin to the corner of each speaker - dialing them in within a "bee's dick."

so that took care of sound stage and imaging but resulted in a one seat sweet spot - which is why I love omnis -oh well

the LRS are mounted on MYE stands with buck shot in bags over the base and very importantly tie wrapped to the diagonal cross strut. The speakers beamed if placed vertically so I kept the lean back position.

spikes on brass pucks - onto a hard wood floor

DIY pure silver interconnects made of thin wire inside mailing clear plastic tape - insanely good by the way

Home depot plain solid 10 ga copper electricians wire

vintage Eagle iverson amp - huge current reserve as they were designed to run APOGEE speakers at 2 ohm

first generation Rega 1 cd player

here is the key change - got rid of the Woo output transformer less preamp and replace with a PASS labs DIY B1 buffer to match up impedances.

and THAT did it - the LRS exploded with dynamics - things like upright double bass are palpable / rock songs which are drum heavy are breathtaking and explosive / trumpet and piano which are the real test are holographic and alive with the only negative being the bass extension being limited to 50 hz - but its a real 50 hz - not a made up spec

One other point is that I am very experienced with tube amps and surprisingly the system is not harsh , gritty or strident in the treble - really neutral sounding - not romantic or lush like an old Quicksilver amp but very low fatigue.

most important is that its a very musically involving system for less then what many spend on a tone arm.

Stands, floor pucks, interconnects, speaker wire, amplifiers, etc........none of those things increase the physical capabilities of the speakers.
The LRS is a dipole speaker with barely 320 square inches of radiating area and very low excursion. It is what it is.

You're an entertaining fellow though.

Dave.

If I recall correctly, Johnathan Valin mentioned that he didn't even consider the 30.7 or maybe it was the 30.7c a rock and roll speaker.

I know my JBL 4367's are rock and roll speakers, coaxial compression tweet and mid, advanced waveguide and a 15' woofer. In a large cabinet and coming in at over a hundred pounds.

One reviewer's quick check of a speakers bass and rock and roll ability is AC/DC's Back In Black album on CD.

JBL 4367 with coaxial compression tweet and mid? That is not correct.

The D2430K driver is a dual diaphragm compression scheme. I wouldn't call it "coaxial" either, but it is different than a typical compression driver.

But, nevertheless, the 4367 could definitely be considered a "rock speaker." If you're in the room with them, they could certainly shake your guts.....and sound clean doing it.

Dave.

Ok, so you got me it's not coaxial, but everything 700 hz and above does come out of those dual compression diaphragm's, which are annular shaped and are not domes by the way.

Davey is also correct in that the bass is very smooth, not exaggerated, or boomy and no mid bass hump, like in JBL's of the past.
