one of you characters here on the forum recommended that I get a laser measuring device and precisely measure from each speaker to the center of my brain.

At first i thought it was absolute nonsense

was over at home depot and it ended up I needed once of these apparatus anyway for a different reason

so using the pointer I aligned the speakers to a gnates ass

oh Man !

the soundstage immediately popped extremely tighter and more coherent

you learn something every day

Next, experiment with different distances to front wall - and ideally measure FR results in the Schroeder frequencies. A value of just over eight feet in the music room produced the most linear results.

Which ended up being very close to following HP's "Rule of Thirds".

Laser measuring may give exact equal measurements to your brain(?), but is no guarantee for pin-point imaging, unless everything is perfectly symmetrical........ your hearing, wall distance, wall material, demping, diffusion, toe-in etc.......

In the real world, multi instrumental mono recordings are your best tool.

"Rule of Thirds", a great starting point for most set-up's (on the long wall).

I just ensure my symmetrical couch and system is centered in my symmetrical room... then in theory my head will be centered.

You used the term "I aligned the speakers to a gnates ass" (I think you really meant "gnat's ass"?)

Whereas the Oz term would be "I aligned the speakers to a bee's dick"!

Did you align both inner and both outer edges to make the toe-in symmetrical ?

Well, exact matching distances from drivers to one's head won't guarantee perfect imaging, but it will give the best chance to start to get the most precise imaging from your setup. Matching distances and angles is the best place to start to find the most satisfactory imaging from your speakers & room, and after achieving a good match you can adjust other factors such as the absorptive / reflective qualities of various walls, distances to walls and so on.
Science doesn't care what you believe.

Using a laser sounds interesting and high-tech, but offers no real advantage when establishing a starting point for a system set-up.

It's just a general starting point, after that, critical positioning is all done by ear, whether your starting point was an inch of or not becomes irrelevant.
