I hope AndyR has some 20.7's or 30.7's lined up as replacements.

I somewhat get it if he's in that room he posted some time back, it was pretty small IIRC.

I have seen pictures of what he will be using, it is not Magnepan but it is an open baffle design that will fit small rooms.

Thanks for the hint.

Looks like AndyR is a true diehard DIY'er as we already knew !!!

Reminds me of the Aussie Kyron designs.

I put that ad on Aussie Audio Mart - and had no idea it would be replicated across their other sites.

Yes, the end of an era - nearly 30 years with Maggies. :-(( The combination of:
a. wanting to get some brownie points from wifey, and
b. the room really being overwhelmed by 4 large panels

... prompted me last year (during lockdown) to start thinking of what I could replace them with - which would:
a. satisfy me, musically, and
b. have a minimal impact on the room (which is not a man-cave), and
c. be 2-way active - and able to go down to where the subs would take over.

This is what I came up with:

They hand over to my subs (in the front corners of the room) at 100-160Hz - still playing with that - while the XO between mid/bass and ribbon is @ 2800Hz.

Yes, Tim - they were inspired by the Kyron 'Gaias'! :-))

Having no baffle, there is a big hole below 500Hz; I had originally thought I might get away with only one mid/bass driver but the REW measurements I did with this setup showed that this just wasn't going to happen! :-((

With four mid/bass drivers ... only a small amount of EQ is required on the mid/bass drivers, with:
* subs being attenuated by 12dB, and
* tweeters by 8dB.

Drivers are:
* mid/bass - SB Acoustics 6 1/2" 'Satori' Textreme driver (MW16TX-4), and
* tweeter - Satori ribbon tweeter (AT60NC-4).

They are completely satisfying to listen to - and my wife is delighted with them!

Andy
