Does this really seem like a good idea?

In a first "experimental" military exercise, the US permitted the Norwegian military to take control/guidance of US missiles, after launch from a US platform.

"The US Air Force recently allowed another country to take control of American bombs in flight for the first time, with F-15 Strike Eagle pilots passing control of their glide bombs over to Norwegian forces."

With the state of our relationships with our "valued allies", I don't see this as a good idea.

The soldier on the ground has the ability to provide better guidance.

You have probably read some war stories about the support fire or friendly airplanes hitting their own troops instead of the closely located enemy. That is why some weapons are guided by a guy with a laser pointer, aiming it at a target, so a missile, launched from 100 miles away could hit a small target precisely.

The state of our relationships with our "valued allies" is mostly within our scope of control.

on the use of F35s at two AFBs.

Our "valued allies" are now stepping up to the plate for funding their defense.

...but handing over the controls/targeting of the weapons to a foreign military (even if they are allegedly one of our allies) seems a bit loose.

There was very, very tight coordination between many national troops of the coalition. That is the whole idea of being allies.

But NORAD has been an integrated missile defense system since inception. Not that it won't be reconsidered now.

...it is much more like NATO than this situation. All parties involved monitor the security of the region and have agreed to respond collaboratively to defend the region--with their own weapons. No one has control or can take control over anyone else's missiles once fired.

I agree that utilizing troops on the ground to control the final destination of the guided missiles will increase accuracy and effectiveness of their deployment. My main concern is the current state of our relationships with our "trusted allies". Face it, we've pissed-off many of them, and some of their relationships with our so-called adversaries are a bit questionable. Allowing a foreign military to alter the final destination of a US-launched weapon takes a lot of trust.

NATO bases have no defenses against their weaponry if they go all out.

And maybe even the present. It is Trump's offensive behaviour toward allies that is a bad idea.

Russia could defeat even Ukraine in a week ... or a year ... or two years ... or three years.

Russia is a middle power whose only advantage is nuclear blackmail.

NOT the 51st state, eh!?!

Putin is often called "overcautious" and a "gradualist", both of which might be true - but neither characteristic is a negative in a strategic thinker who looks far ahead into the future at the big picture. Rather, they are virtues.

Russian strategy follows Svechin's dictum that military actions must be commensurate with political goals and political goals must align with military capabilities. They are really two side of the same coin.

The Russian military is now superior in:

- long range strike capabilities, both nuclear and non-nuclear.

- integrated, networked, long range air defenses, including hypersonics.

- electronic warfare

- drone technologies

- anti-stealh technologies

- submarine technology

- fast littoral and naval ballistic missile launch systems

- integrated networked radar systems

- artillery

- tanks

- ROFARS (photonoc detection systrms)

- anti-satellite systems

That's a partial list.

Most important of all is industrial capacity, growing every month.

P.S. Ukraine was defeated the moment they decided to wage a war against Russia, on behalf of the U.S.
